REFERENCE SCOPE

Beta 0.6.3 · secondary reference snapshot

Three different learning goals

Bulbasaur’s kit connects Grass attacks with recovery. Charmander’s native moves all use Fire-special damage. Squirtle adds armor and shield while mixing Water-special attacks with physical Rapid Spin. These mechanics suggest different starting points; they do not establish a universal winner.

Use a small decision test

Ask what currently interrupts your run. If you are still learning to navigate, choose a partner whose basic idea is easy for you to remember. If upgrade descriptions confuse you, a consistent damage category can make the next choice clearer. If you want to practise leaving danger and returning, use that as your evaluation goal.

Give the choice several honest attempts before changing it. Keep region, mode and major planning decisions similar. Otherwise a better result may reflect an easier situation rather than the partner itself.

Read the kit before filling your slots

In the retained snapshot, each starter begins with its opening move at level 1; further native moves become eligible at levels 2, 4 and 7. Open the Move Checker when planning a later attack. Consider its role and the space it needs; a late move cannot help if the early plan leaves you unable to survive.

Quick questions

Is the first choice permanent?

The reference lists a later challenge-and-capture route for unchosen starters. See the unlock tracker for the recorded requirements.

Are the evolution levels from the main Pokémon games?

No. The listed levels refer to the PokéBonk run snapshot. Compare the original game’s current partner panel before planning around them.

How we use sources ↗

Game rules can change. Check your current in-game description when a detail differs. Numerical references are a dated snapshot, not a claim of current balance or a completed playtest.
